How We Review Online Courses: Our Complete Methodology
Every course review on courseguidance.in/ follows a standardized methodology designed to be transparent, reproducible, and fair. This page explains exactly how we evaluate courses so you can understand the basis for our recommendations and challenge them if you disagree.
The 10 Factors We Evaluate
Every course is assessed on 10 standardized factors. Each factor is scored based on publicly verifiable evidence.
1. Course Content and Depth
We evaluate the curriculum against actual job requirements by analyzing 500+ job descriptions on Naukri and LinkedIn for each skill. Does the course teach what employers actually ask for? Is the content up-to-date? Does it include hands-on projects, or is it all theory? We check syllabus coverage, assignment quality, and whether the capstone/final project is genuinely portfolio-worthy.
2. Pricing and True Cost
We calculate the total cost including: listed price, GST (18%), EMI interest (if applicable), and opportunity cost of time invested. A ₹54,000 course with GST becomes ₹63,720. With 200 hours of study time for someone earning ₹10 LPA, the true cost is approximately ₹1,60,000. We believe you should know the real price before you buy.
3. Certificate Value with Indian Employers
We assess certificate recognition based on our survey of 200+ Indian hiring managers, cross-referenced with job posting requirements on Naukri and LinkedIn. Certificates are ranked in tiers: A-Tier (broadly recognized: Google, IBM, IIT/NPTEL, IIIT-B/MICA PG), B-Tier (moderately recognized: Simplilearn, Meta Blueprint, IIM Skills), C-Tier (limited recognition: Coursera individual, LinkedIn Learning), D-Tier (near-zero value: Udemy, free platform certificates).
4. Hindi and Regional Language Support
For each course, we verify: Is the primary instruction in Hindi? Are Hindi subtitles available? Are there Hindi-language alternative courses on the same platform? This matters for India’s 600+ million Hindi speakers and is flagged prominently in every review.
5. Placement Support and Career Services
We evaluate what ‘placement support’ actually means, not what the marketing says. Does the platform provide structured resume reviews? Mock interviews? Company referrals? Job board access? Or is ‘placement assistance’ just a resume template and a list of job sites? We verify by speaking with alumni and checking consumer forum feedback.
6. Refund Policy and Consumer Protection
We document the exact refund window, the process for requesting a refund, and real learner experiences with the refund process (sourced from consumer forums and Reddit). A 30-day no-questions refund (Udemy) scores differently from a 7-day conditional refund (UpGrad/Simplilearn).
7. Learning Experience and Format
Self-paced vs live classes, video quality, assignment feedback, community features, mentor access, mobile app quality. We note what percentage of content is live vs pre-recorded, and whether the platform is transparent about this before enrollment.
8. Completion Rate and Learner Outcomes
Where available, we report course completion rates. For most platforms, this data is not publicly disclosed, which we note as a transparency gap. We also evaluate claimed salary outcomes against independent salary data from AmbitionBox and Glassdoor.
9. Sales Practices and Ethical Concerns
We evaluate the enrollment experience: How many calls does the sales team make? Do they use pressure tactics? Is pricing presented honestly? We test this by registering for free trials and brochures and documenting the follow-up experience.
10. Value for Money (ROI)
Using our proprietary ROI methodology, we calculate the expected return on investment for three learner profiles (fresh graduate, working professional, senior professional). This accounts for course cost, time cost, salary uplift probability, and completion risk. Full methodology is published in our ROI study.

How We Handle Conflicts of Interest
CourseGuidance earns affiliate commissions from some platforms we review. This creates a potential conflict of interest that we manage through the following policies:
Free recommendations first: Every skill review recommends free options (NPTEL, YouTube, Coursera audit) before any paid course. We earn nothing from these recommendations.
No paid placements: Platforms cannot pay to appear higher in our rankings, receive better scores, or get more favorable reviews.
Methodology transparency: Our scoring criteria, data sources, and review process are published on this page. You can verify every claim we make.
Affiliate disclosure: Every page with affiliate links includes a clear disclosure statement. See our full Affiliate Disclosure for details.
How We Handle Corrections
We are committed to accuracy. When we get something wrong, we fix it promptly and transparently.
To submit a correction: Email admin@courseguidance.in with the specific page URL, the incorrect information, and the correct information with a verifiable source.
Our response commitment: We will review and respond within 48 hours. If the correction is valid, we will update the article within 72 hours and note the correction with the date and nature of the change.
Platform responses: EdTech platforms reviewed on our site are welcome to submit responses or rebuttals with evidence. We will publish their response alongside our review, clearly labeled as a platform response.
